Ice fishing tip ups demand attention on cold days. It doesn’t take very long on cold windy days for most fishing tip ups to freeze in. Once this happens, it’s not uncommon for the tip ups to lose bait without triggering a flag.
Normal operation of the tip ups are constricted and large fish seem to sneak the bait off traps frequently. It is in your best interest to tend your traps on a regular basis to insure normal operation isn’t impeded.
On windy days snow is often blown into the tip up hole and the freeze process starts rather quickly. It always seems like the really big fish bite on days that aren’t fit to be out fishing.
On these type of days a portable wind block of some sort could come in real handy should you need to play out a large fish.
Ice shacks are generally secured to the ice so a portable wind block could save your from frostbite. The colder it is outside the more frequently you should tend your ice fishing tip ups.
